Elon Musk says he'll give a SpaceX share to every child in America next year
By Ghostwriter KIERO SWISS · based on reporting by CNBC

CNBC reported Monday that Elon Musk said he will give every child in the United States one SpaceX share next year. An August SEC filing shows he owns about 4.8 billion shares, or 6.4 billion including unvested awards and options, a 48.4% stake. With 72 million children under 18 as of July 1, 2025, the gift would be worth roughly $10.5 billion at the recent $146.03 price. Musk called it the first of many but provided no details on how the distribution would work.
The announcement follows Musk's more than $276 million in donations to Republican groups since July, making him the top known donor for the 2026 midterms. His philanthropic record includes a $38 million contribution to OpenAI against a $1 billion pledge, an unfulfilled $6 billion promise to the World Food Program, and a foundation that has repeatedly fallen short of legal minimums. Musk's post came after Anthropic said it would commit 5% of its shares to a public benefit fund, prompting Musk to say he would give shares directly to the public.
