Solar installer founded by Musk's cousins Peter and Lyndon Rive; acquired by Tesla in 2016 and folded into Tesla Energy.

SolarCity was founded on 4 July 2006 by Peter and Lyndon Rive, with Musk as chairman. Its no-money-down leases made it the largest residential solar installer in the United States. Tesla acquired it in 2016 for about US$2.6 billion and turned it into Tesla Energy.
